DD 2 / 2016

For the second time, the Institute of Art History – Centre Cvito Fisković hosted a week of scholarly and expert events entitled Discovering Dalmatia 2, which took place between Tuesday, May 24, and Saturday, May 28, 2016. Being a major part of our interdisciplinary research project, the series of public lectures and presentations received generous support from the Croatian Science Foundation, the City of Split and the Split-Dalmatia County Tourist Board. The events were held at a number of prominent locations in Split: the north-west tower of Diocletian’s Palace, the top floor of the mid-20th century building on the Peristyle designed by architect Neven Šegvić (providing a marvellous view of the square bellow), the Fine Arts Gallery and the Cvito Fisković Centre in Kružićeva Street. The colloquium was conducted in Croatian, except on Friday, May 27, when the lectures were given by our guests from abroad. The programme included the presentation of the archival collections of the Institute of Art History which are valuable for the research of Dalmatian historic urban landscapes, the lectures by colleagues from the British Museum in London and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the presentation of the chronogeographical database of the Grand Tourism in Dalmatia in the 18th and the 19th centuries, and a number of other lectures, summaries of which are available here.
